Download Data Dummy: How to Generate and Use Realistic Test Data

I have put this page together to provide everyone with data that you would come across in the REAL WORLD. Whether you are looking for some Pivot Table practice data or data that you can flow through an Excel dashboard you are building, this article will hopefully provide you with a good starting point.

If you would like to download this data instantly and for free, just click the download button below. The download will be in the form of a zipped file (.zip) and include both a Microsoft Excel (.xlsx) and CSV file version of the raw data.

If you're developing an application, you'll want to make sure you're testing it under conditions that closely simulate a production environment. In production, you'll have an army of users banging away at your app and filling your database with data, which puts stress on your code. If you're hand-entering data into a test environment one record at a time using the UI, you're never going to build up the volume and variety of data that your app will accumulate in a few days in production. Worse, the data you enter will be biased towards your own usage patterns and won't match real-world usage, leaving important bugs undiscovered.

When your test database is filled with realistic looking data, you'll be more engaged as a tester. When you demonstrate new features to others, they'll understand them faster. Real data is varied and will contain characters that may not play nice with your code, such as apostrophes, or unicode characters from other languages. Testing with realistic data will make your app more robust because you'll catch errors that are likely to occur in production before release day.

There are plenty of great data mocking libraries available for almost every language and platform. But not everyone is a programmer or has time to learn a new framework. Mockaroo allows you to quickly and easily to download large amounts of randomly generated test data based on your own specs which you can then load directly into your test environment using SQL or CSV formats. No programming is required.

This page has Microsoft Excel sample datasets that you can use for testing, Excel training and demos, and other learning activities. The sample file contents are described in the sections below, so you can decide which dataset will be the best match for what you need.

You can see a screen shot of each dataset, and a list of the columns it contains, with a brief description. Then, to get started, you can download sample Excel file with data for your training sessions.

Safety Data Analysis: See an example of how this workplace safety data can be used, on the Pivot Table Conditional Formatting Weekend Dates page. There are 3 pivot tables, showing incidents over 3 years. In each pivot table, the weekend dates are highlighted for easier comparison.

This sample file has the same data as the file above -- 2018 Olympic Hockey teams, from Canada and the USA. In addition to the data, this file includes several pivot tables that I added for hockey player data analysis.

In January 2010, I watched a playoff game between the New Orleans Saints and the Arizona Cardinals. It was interesting that the players' numbers closely correlated with their physical size. So, I found the player rosters online, and got that data into Excel, for analysis. You can read about it in my Contextures blog post, and see the game summary on the ESPN website.

Use this data to demonstrate lookup formulas, such as VLOOKUP, XLOOKUP, INDEX and MATCH. Also, show how to create dependent drop down lists, for category and food item. See the Excel Daily Calorie Counter page for an example.

Download: You can also get the sample office supply sales data in an Excel file -- click this link: Office Supply Sales sample data workbook. The zipped file is in xlsx format, and does not contain any macros.

After you copy the Office Supply Sales sample data from the table above, and paste it into Excel, you can format the data as a named Excel table. This will make it easier to sort and filter the data.

Do you need data to try with the Power BI service? You can use the following simple Excel workbook with sample financial data. This workbook has a table of sales and profit data sorted by market segment and country/region.

It is SAP DEMO System, know as SAP IDES. The demo system is not available for free download or access for everyone. If you are an SAP customer, you should have an access to Quality system to play around with SAP automation

I've completed the 'fundamentals' study but wish to move further. However, not having any data to work w/ is a stopper. I'm hoping there's somewhere I can obtain various files to work with. Can you help me?

@djchatman, if your intent is to practice with the exact same data set used for Fundamentals 1, then you should try the tutorial Data from hypothetical ButterCup Games as @skoelpin has suggested (I have provided Another Link to the same file from Splunk Search Tutorial App):

If your intent is to practice Splunk commands on any data, you can try several other approaches:1) Eventgen App on Splunkbase: This app can be used to generate dyummy data live based on sample data added to the app. Refer to youtube walk-thru from Clint Sharp ( 5 min video) on setting up the App and how to use it.

3) Turn on Performance or Event Log monitoring (on Windows machine): Follow simple steps to turn on Performance monitoring like CPU, Memory etc on your personal machine and use the indexed data

4) Generate mock data using commands like makeresults and gentimes to cook up data on the fly and run your search command on the same. If you follow most of Splunkers here on Splunk Answers use this approach to generate some dummy data as per user's question and then propose solutions.

Below is publicly available data that Montgomery county releases. You can do cool things like finding the most popular car that gets caught for speeding to visualizing crime maps. It updates on a pretty frequent basis

Initially, I was required to test the functionality of my theme in which I need some users, posts, and custom posts. I made this plugin for my own purposes. After that, I believe there are also other developers who need this kind of plugin that can be used to generate dummy content.

The dummy data is created by the plugin. You can use the plugin to produce dummy data and delete it whenever you want on both the development and production/live websites because the plugin has the ability to delete all the generated data with a single click.

Your #1 resource to download free test files either for speed test or for any other purpose! Our dummy files include audio, video, PDF, images, text, and many other formats. Simply click on the desired box below and download your test file. Here are our speed test files to download below.

However, if you are a programmer/developer and looking for a test file containing test data from a programming perspective, stay tuned! Soon, we will upload data files for different testing purposes like bash, audio, video, c#, CSV, image, cucumber, java, JUnit test files, etc.

Test files are used for different purposes. From a programming perspective, such files are used to test units and code. However, the main reason for our test files is to test downloading speed on different broadband or using tools.

Downloading time depends on your broadband package. However, we have tested downloading these files on various packages and, as a result, we have listed the average results under each file. These results are verified from different locations.

After that, you can select the date range, post type, author, and other options. You can also choose to import images from dummy placeholder image sources, use HTML inside your posts, and set the number of comments for each item.
